Let's get the students' thoughts on public funding of education...
When you, a student, see tens of thousands of teachers marching, standing up for more support from the state government, how does that make you feel? Do you support teachers? Do you support the ideals of higher education? If so what is the best way you can show that support? Do you have any responsibility for creating a great school system?
Many students say they don't like school, and don't see it as important. Some students actively work against the teachers and the ASU Prep Way in the classroom. Some students don't think school should be mandatory. Some students claim that in today's society one only needs a phone/computer, and that schools, as we know them, are out of date. Are these just angry teens with behavioral issues, or do they have a point?
I contend that when the government undervalues education, then it makes it easier for society, and ultimately for students to give in to the "soft bigotry of low expectations". What do you really think? I would love to see your comments...
